The formula
Basic hourly wage = monthly basic salary ÷ 30 ÷ normal daily hours.
| Type of hour | Rate |
|---|---|
| Daytime overtime | Hourly wage × 1.25 |
| Overtime between 10 pm and 4 am | Hourly wage × 1.5 |
| Rest-day work without a substitute day | Hourly wage × 1.5 |
Worked example
AED 6,000 basic, 8-hour day, 10 hours of daytime overtime
- Hourly wage: 6,000 ÷ 30 ÷ 8 = AED 25
- Overtime: 10 × 25 × 1.25 = AED 312.50
Some employers calculate the hourly wage on 365 days (basic × 12 ÷ 365 ÷ hours), which gives a slightly lower figure. Check your contract. See the UAE payroll guide.
